Web poker has become world celebrated recently, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game shows. The games universal appeal, though, arcs back in fact a bit further than its TV scores. Over the years many variants on the original poker game have been created, including a handful of games that are not in reality poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is most closely affiliated with blackjack than traditional poker, in that the players wager against the bank instead of each other. The winning hands, are the long-standing poker hands. There is little bluffing or other types of boondoggle. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up before the dealer saying "No further wagers." At that instance, both you and the house and of course all of the other players receive 5 cards each. Once you have looked at your hand and the casino’s initial card, you have to either make a call bet or surrender. The call wager’s value is akin to your original wager, indicating that the stakes will have increased two fold. Surrendering means that your ante goes instantly to the dealer. After the bet is the showdown. If the bank doesn’t have ace/king or greater, your wager is returned, plus a sum equal to the ante. If the casino has a hand with ace/king or better, you win if your hand beats the casino’s hand. The casino pays chips even with your wager and fixed odds on your call wager. These odds are:

  • Even for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for two pairs
  • 3-1 for 3 of a kind
  • four to one for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • 7-1 for a full house
  • twenty to one for a four of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • one hundred to one for a royal flush
