Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world could be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
