Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize exactly three cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in just about all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at the outset, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing range of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players battling for the high hand, as well as a few shooting for the low. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
