Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
