Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
