Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
