Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players around the world. While betting on online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
