Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
