Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
