Poker chips have been manufactured from a huge range of materials in an almost endless variety of styles since the advent of betting and the need to track winnings. The most common components employed at this time in the manufacture of cutting-edge poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylics. Clay chips, the oldest of the group, have been made in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 19th century, poker players appear to be using any small valuable object imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts sometimes employed rough gold pieces as well as chips – normally made of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features began to employ a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with engraved slits to hold them neatly stacked together.

There is no debate that poker has gotten bigger constantly in acceptance since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive advancement of web gambling and unique television shows, public appeal in poker has accelerated more rapidly than ever before. Most people are initially introduced to poker by TV showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will gamble on their initial hands on the web. Regardless of web poker’s rise, nothing competes with the feeling of shuffling weighty clay poker chips in your hand, tossing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
